Start here: meditate together, share a thought, go a little deeper
Join the daily Lake Breath meditation at 8:02 p.m. Burlington time, or practice whenever it works for you. This channel is also a place for reflections, philosophical questions, and conversations that deserve a little more room.
Things you can post:
After meditating: something you noticed, a thought that stayed with you, or a question about your practice.
A bigger question: something about attention, friendship, work, purpose, growing older, or how you want to live.
Something worth thinking about: a passage, idea, book, podcast, or experience — with a few words about what it brought up for you.
Your experience with Lake Breath: what it is like to pause at the same time as other people, or a suggestion for the app.
Examples: “Why do I feel guilty doing nothing?” or “What has changed your mind about what a good day looks like?”
The topic does not have to be about Burlington, and you do not have to meditate to join the conversation. You can also meditate quietly without posting anything afterward.
Easy first post: share one thought you have been sitting with lately. A sentence is enough.
Respond with curiosity. Share your own experience, ask a thoughtful question, and let people say whether they are looking for advice or simply want to talk.
Start here: post a score, set a challenge, find a player
This is the place to play and talk games with people around Burlington. Btown Arcade games, other video games, board games, and casual game nights all belong.
Things you can post:
A score or challenge: name the game, share your score or a screenshot, and invite people to give it a try. Add the game link when you have it.
An invitation to play: say which game and platform, when you are playing, and how people can join. Mention whether you want a relaxed session or something competitive.
A game recommendation or question: share what you are enjoying, ask for suggestions, or swap tips.
A recurring group: find people for co-op sessions, a regular board-game table, or a friendly local rivalry.
Example invitation: “Anyone up for a casual co-op game tonight around 8? Beginners welcome — comment if you want to join.” Add the actual game and platform to your post.
Easy first post: what are you playing lately, and would you welcome someone joining?
You can run a friendly score challenge right in a thread: name the game and mode, explain the rules, and have people reply with scores. A screenshot works for now.
If you organize an in-person game night, put the time and place in Plans & Meetups and link back to the conversation here.
Start here: make a plan and find people to join
Use this channel when you want to do something with other people: go to an existing event together, organize a small hangout, or find out whether anyone is interested in an idea.
Examples of posts you could make:
“I’m going to a show Friday. Anyone want to meet up beforehand?”
“Coffee and a waterfront walk Saturday morning — anyone interested?”
“Would anyone be up for a bring-a-friend game night?”
“What are people doing this weekend? I’d like to join something.”
For a definite plan: include the day and time, meeting place, cost if any, who can join, and how people should respond. Add the event link if there is one. If space is limited or people need to check with you first, say that in the post.
For an early idea: say you are checking interest. People can comment with availability or react to show interest. Follow up with the actual plan when it is settled, and update the thread if anything changes.
Easy first post: name something you would like company for this week.
Looking for people who share an ongoing interest, without a specific plan yet? Try Find Each Other. Looking for someone to join an online game? Btown Arcade is a good home for that.
Start here: ask a local, help a neighbor
Have a question that people around Burlington could help answer? Start a post here. Restaurant recommendations, local services, places to take visitors, how something works around town, and everyday practical questions all belong.
Examples of questions you could post:
“Where can I get a quiet weekday lunch for under $20?”
“Can anyone recommend a bike shop for a basic tune-up?”
“My parents are visiting on a rainy day. What would you take them to do?”
“Does anyone know how to reserve a community room for a small group?”
Make the question your title. Add the details that will help someone answer: the area, budget, timing, or what you have already tried. One main question per post makes answers easier to find later.
When answering, say what you recommend and why. If you try a suggestion, come back and let people know how it went.
Btown Brief may bring in a question or discussion spotted elsewhere, with a link and credit to the source. You can answer here or follow the link to the original conversation.
Easy first post: what is one local thing you have been meaning to ask someone?
A conversation starter like “What makes Burlington feel like home?” fits in General. An invitation like “Who wants to get lunch Friday?” fits in Plans & Meetups.
Start here: everyday Burlington life, photos, and conversation
This is the everyday conversation space for Btown Brief. Share something from your day, a photo, a funny observation, something you made, a recipe, or a local story you want to talk about. A few words are enough.
You can start a post any day. These three recurring threads give us a place to join in:
Monday — The Question: one question from Btown Brief for everyone to answer in the comments. Think: “What small thing makes Burlington feel like home?”
Wednesday — Overheard / Noticed: a funny line, an unexpected scene, or something around town that caught your attention.
Friday — Show & Tell: share something you found, made, tried, or enjoyed. A photo, a short story, a recipe, or a link all work.
Newsletter editions appear here too. Comment on the edition to talk about a story, add local context, or share your take.
Easy first post: share one thing that caught your attention this week and tell us why.

Start here: introduce yourself, swap handles, find your people
Want more local people in your life — or in the feeds and apps you already use? Introduce yourself here, share what you are into, and tell people what kind of connection you would enjoy. This is for newcomers and longtime locals alike.
Here are a few ways to use this channel:
Introduce yourself: share a little about your interests and the people you would like to meet. For example: “I’m into cooking, easy hikes, and live music. I’d love to meet other people who enjoy those.”
Find each other on BeReal or Instagram: share your handle if you want local people to add you. Say what you usually share or what you would like to see: everyday life, photography, food, art, or whatever you enjoy.
Find activity friends: share your Strava profile or a club link, or simply say you are looking for walking, running, or riding company. Mention your pace or experience if it helps.
Connect through music: share a Spotify playlist, ask for songs to add, or find people with similar taste who might enjoy going to shows.
Start or find a small group: float an interest such as a book club, movie nights, crafting, pickup sports, or cooking together. You can start by asking who is interested.
Easy first step: introduce yourself in the comments below, or start a post if you have a particular connection in mind. Use any part of this:
“I’m ___. I’m into ___. I’d love to find people to ___. You can also find me on ___, if you want to connect there.”
Share only the details and handles you are comfortable making visible. A handle is optional; you can connect by replying here. Say whether you welcome follows, friend requests, or messages, and respect what others ask for.
Once you have a particular date and activity in mind, put the invitation in Plans & Meetups.
